Top 5 famous vans in TV/Film

You might not think of your regular everyday van as something to write home about however, you might be mistaken. There have been many exciting and memorable vans in TV/Film over the years from motorhomes to cartoons, there’s something for everyone.

 We have compiled a list counting down our top 5 favourite TV/Film vans and their best moments – Enjoy!

 

5. The yellow Van on Little Miss Sunshine

The Oscar award winning Little Miss Sunshine highlights all the issues that come along with owning a Volkswagen type 2 Microbus. When the Hoover family set out to get Olive to California for the Little Miss Sunshine Junior contest the infamous bright yellow van takes star of the show. From the incessantly beeping horn to the faulty clutch that results in the family pushing the van until it reaches 20mph before running alongside it and jumping in to get it going. If you haven’t already seen this film, it is definitely one to watch!

4. Mutt Cutt’s on Dumb and Dumber

Most famous for its iconic shaggy dog look, complete with the fur, ears, nose, and the distinct red tongue, it’s not one to be missed. The Mutt Cutts van carried the two boys across a serious cross-country adventure, known for the infamous ‘Want to hear the most annoying sound in the world’ moment with hitchhiker Joe Mentalino (Played by Mike Starr). If for some reason you haven’t already seen Dumb and Dumber, Mutt Cutts should be the reason to add it to your list!

3.The Bounder RV on Breaking Bad

One of the biggest series' to hit our TVs, airing in 2008 Walter White’s RV had its fair share of airtime throughout the series. ‘The Krystal Ship’ was an A class recreational vehicle by Fleetwood RV. It is estimated that purchasing one within the same time frame as Walter and of the same age would have cost $4000 - $7000. The original vehicle is kept on the movie lot and owned by the studio, which you can visit! If you have a lot of time to spare this multi award-winning series is a great watch.

2. The Reliant Regal on Only Fools and Horses

This is the Trotters’ main mode of transport, serving as a space for stock and used to transport the family to several different locations, with a top speed of a whopping 55mph and only 3 wheels, there's no wonder it’s not often referenced in a good light in the show - although it does make for great tv. There are many memorable moments in The Reliant Regal throughout the series. This is an oldie but a goldy, there is no way this famous yellow van wasn’t making it onto the list.

1. The Mystery Machine on Scooby Doo

Ending on a slightly comical one, but one of the most well-known TV vans of all time – the mystery machine, used to ferry about the crime-busting crew. Dating back to 1969 when the first episode aired, the mystery machine has been there from the beginning. The original Hannah-Barbara version of the cartoon is said to have been based on the Volkswagen LT 40 Van, whereas after 2001 it seems to be based on the Chevy Astro/GMC safari full sized van.

There are just too many iconic van moments in tv/film to stop there, we’ve thrown in one our favourite tv van moments, it couldn’t go a miss!

Top Gear: Man with a van Challenge, sees Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May take to the top gear track as their £1000 vans are subjected to a series of distinctly non-industry standard tests.
